Kangaroo Island Council

The Kangaroo Island Council oversees care and control of 5 cemeteries throughout the Island.

Lease:
This is for a period of 99 years.
Transfer of a Lease is available upon the completion of a form.
Relinquishment of a Lease. A letter in writing to the Council from the Lessee with the request.

Burials:
You must give two full working days notice. These arrangements are made through the Funeral Director;
eg Monday Notice - Thursday Burial --- Wednesday Notice - Saturday/Monday Burial.

Interment of Ashes in Columbarium:
You must give two full working days notice. These arrangements are made through the Funeral Director;
eg Monday Notice - Thursday Burial --- Wednesday Notice - Saturday/Monday Burial.

Interment of Ashes in a previously used site:
Completion of a form by a family member is required.

Landscaping:
No plantings on memorials to take place within the cemetery grounds.

American River Redbanks Road	Burial Allotments and Brick Columbarium Niche.
Emy Bay - Historical Section 457/8 Hundred of Menzies	A small area set aside for burials, but no headstones or records of those buried . Sign posted. This is not used for current burials.
Kingscote Seaview Road & Cordes Road	Burial Allotments, Lawned Area & Brick Columbarium Niche.
Penneshaw - Heritage SA Hog Bay Road	Burial Allotments
Pioneer - Historical Seaview Road	This holds the remains of the Early Settlement Inhabitants who arrived on Kangaroo Island in 1836. This area is not used for current burials.

Re-use of Sites

Plaques & Memorials

Additional forms to be completed

After the period of 99 years Council, and after consultation with members of the family, will re-issue the plots to be used again. An 'Advance Advice Notice' will be issued.

Council encourages members of the family to erect plaques and headstones NOT exceeding a height of 450mm, max width 1m, 350mm deep with a removable concrete stand.

In the lawn section no additional structures other than the Plaque are to be placed on the allotment site. The new burial section will be lawn only.

Standard size bronze plaques are available through Council. Please contact the Officer in charge on 08 8553 4534.
