From 1 July 2016, all public outdoor dining areas in South Australia will become smoke-free under the Tobacco Products Regulation Act 1997. Smoke-free outdoor dining is designed to protect the community from the harms of second hand tobacco smoke and increase the comfort and enjoyment of non-smokers dining in outdoor areas.

The theme for Australian Food Safety Week this year will be the Temperature Danger Zone in food preparation and storage.
This years theme will stress the importance of keeping hot food hot (600C and above) and cold foods cold (50C and below) while handling and storing. The goal will be to raise consumer awareness on bacteria’s ability to grow when food temperature reaches the danger zone, and how maintaining awareness of food temperature can prevent food poisoning and contribute to a safe food preparation environment. The purpose of this bulletin is to advise South Australian food businesses that misrepresentation of food offered for sale, including fish and fish products, is an offence under the Food Act 2001. Objects of the South Australian Food Act 2001 include "to prevent misleading conduct in connection with the sale of food".

SA Health is reminding people to take care when preparing food this Christmas to protect yourself and your family against food poisoning.
Dr Fay Jenkins, Director Food Safety and Nutrition, SA Health, said just a few simple steps can help you avoid becoming one of the five million Australians who suffer from food poisoning each year.
"Christmas holidays are a great time to relax with family and friends and many of us host parties, have a barbeque or maybe even go on a short holiday," Dr Jenkins said.
"However it’s also a time of year when we may change our food handling practices as we cook for larger numbers of people and often eat outdoors.
"It’s important to remember good food safety practices at all times, such as keeping foods chilled for as long as possible and washing your hands and utensils thoroughly.
