Access to Kangaroo Island

25th March 2020
Media Release - Mayor & CEO of Kangaroo Island Council

Kangaroo Island Council appreciates your concern and respects your views, however under the current state emergency management procedures, Council has no authority to close the island and therefore cannot make a decision in this respect. We are closely following Federal and State Government advice and we strongly recommend against all non-essential travel to and from Kangaroo Island.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet has closed the state border, so that anyone entering must self-isolate for 14 days. We also understand that the number of non-essential visitors to the island has reduced substantially.

Elected members and staff are meeting regularly by teleconference as needed. We will continue to update the island community via the Council’s website, Council Matters and social media of the changes as they occur.
