Section 184 - Sale of Land for non-payment of Rates

The ‘section 184’ process refers to the circumstances where a council is able to rely on its powers at section 184 of the Local Government Act 1999 to pursue recovery of outstanding rates through the sale of land.

This process can only be used where council rates have been in arrears for three (3) years or more and Council has unsuccessfully pursued all reasonable attempts to secure payment giving regard to hardship constraints by the ratepayer.
