35th Kangaroo Island Easter Art Exhibition
For over three decades Kangaroo Island art has been steadily gaining recognition from mainland audiences.
The Island is home to many creative people some with long-established art practices who are represented in State and National Collections, as well as other artisans, who produce quality crafts and arts taken home by visitors from all around the globe.
The Easter Art Exhibition began 35 years ago from inauspicious beginnings when a few artists participated at the Penneshaw Annual Flower Show. This developed into an independent art event supported by dozens of volunteers and sponsors giving freely of their time and energy to maintain the Exhibition as a jubilant celebration of island endeavour.
In 2002 its responsibility passed to the Artists Collective KI Inc. Since that time under their stewardship the Exhibition has built its reputation for being the largest and most diverse presentation of art on Kangaroo Island and played a significant role in fostering Kangaroo Island’s artistic talent.
In 2021 ACKI will launch the inaugural Diana Keir Art Award. This will be the highest value prize ever offered in the exhibition and be awarded by independent judges to the winner of the major themed category at the Official Opening on the evening of Good Friday, in the Penneshaw Town Hall.
In the sixth art presentation at the airport, Kangaroo Island Council is proud to provide an eclectic and limited offering of Island artists many who will participate in the 2021 Easter Art Exhibition or have been previous winners in this much-loved show. Included are two works by the late Diana Keir whose legacy will underpin the future longevity of the event.
