Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal 2024: Spreading Joy to Kangaroo Island Families
The festive season is upon us once again, and the Kangaroo Island Council, in partnership with the Kangaroo Island Community Centre and Island Care, is proud to announce the 2024 Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal. This cherished annual tradition invites residents to spread holiday cheer by donating gifts that will go directly to families in need across Kangaroo Island.
For over 20 years, the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal has been a beacon of hope and community spirit, touching the lives of many local families and individuals. Kangaroo Island Mayor Michael Pengilly says the generosity of the community never ceases to inspire him.
“Every year, the people of Kangaroo Island come together to support each other, bringing joy to those who may be struggling during the holiday season,” said Michael Pengilly. “It’s a beautiful reminder of the kindness and compassion that makes our Island so special. Whether it’s a toy, a gift voucher, or simply your time, every contribution helps make Christmas a little brighter for our neighbours in need.”
Acting Chief Executive Officer Melissa Grimes echoed the Mayor's sentiments, highlighting the importance of community involvement. “The success of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Appeal relies on the collective efforts of our residents,” said Ms. Grimes. “Each donation, no matter how small, contributes to a brighter holiday season for families facing challenges. We encourage everyone to participate and help spread joy throughout our community.”
The Council Office at 43 Dauncey Street, Kingscote, will be accepting donations until 5:00pm on Friday, 20 December 2024. Donors are asked to label their gifts with the intended age and gender (baby to 18 years) and to collect tags from the Kingscote Office.
To ensure the safety and quality of donations, pre-loved toys and food items cannot be accepted.
Suggested gifts include:
- Toys and games
- Clothing and accessories
- Books
- Sporting goods
- Beauty products
- Gift vouchers
After collection, Mayor Pengilly will deliver the gifts to Island Care and the Kangaroo Island Community Centre, ensuring they reach families in time for Christmas.
Let’s come together once again to share the warmth and spirit of Christmas with those who need it most.
