Last Resort Refuges on Kangaroo Island
It is important to not confuse a Last Resort Refuge with a Bushfire Safer Place:
- Bushfire Safer Places - Use if you need to relocate early.
- Bushfire Last Resort Refuges - Use if your plan has failed.
Last Resort Refuge are your LAST choice of location to shelter from a bushfire. May be subject to sparks, embers and smoke.
The Country Fire Service (CFS) has designated the following locations around Kangaroo Island as LAST resort refuge when directed by the CFS or other agencies:
- American River Wharf area
- Emu Bay Wharf area
- Parndana Oval
- Stokes Bay Beach carpark
- Wisanger Oval
Use Last Resort Refuge if your plan has failed. These are NOT suitable for extended use and provide only limited protection during a bushfire.
