Council’s proposed endorsement of a columbarium to be built in the Penneshaw Cemetery is now open for community consultation.
The proposal has been submitted by the Penneshaw Progress Association and would see two limestone walls constructed with niches intended for the storage of cremated remains. The proposed location of the columbarium is not within in the area that is the key focus of the cemetery’s heritage listing.
Penneshaw Progress Association will fund the construction of the columbarium with the Council providing some in-kind support with earthworks etc if applicable. Council passed a resolution at its October meeting to release the proposal for 21 days community consultation to seek the community's feedback before endorsing the project.
